SATURDAY, feb. 4
The Fourth Annual People's Choice Chili Cook-Off will be held at the E.T. Sims Jr. Neighborhood Facilities Building (Hamilton Recreation Center) from noon - 1:30 p.m.  with awards presented at 2 p.m. Pre-sold tickets are $5 and can be purchased from any Hamilton High School band student. Limited tickets will be sold at the door for $7. Samples from 16 contestants will be available and votes will be cast for the favorite. Drink and cornbread will be included. All proceeds will go towards the Hamilton band students’ trip to Orlando, Fla., in the spring as they perform at Universal City Walk. Information: Mary Franks, 495-9034.

The Byrd Volunteer Fire Department will have a spaghetti supper and political speaking with the supper from 4 - 7 p.m. and the political speaking beginning at 5 p.m. Plates will be $7 and consist of spaghetti, sauce, salad, bread, dessert and drink. Information: 921-1180.

SUNDAY, feb. 5
A tea honoring Eddie and Sarah Herndon for their retirement from the Weldy Home for Children after 20 years of service will be held at the Winfield First Baptist Church fellowship hall from 2 - 4 p.m.

MONDAY, FEB. 6
The Marion County Genealogical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Winfield Public Library.

tuesday, feb. 7
The Marion County Democratic Party will hold a meeting at Dollie’s with supper starting at 6 p.m. and the program starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments will hold the Ninth Annual Senior Winter Ball at the University of North Alabama’s Guillott Banquet Hall from 6 - 9 p.m. The registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 3. MONDAY, FEB. 13
Bevill State Community College-Hamilton Campus Continuing Education program will offer Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People from 6 - 9 p.m. The registration fee is $60 plus $25 for materials to take home. THURSDAY, feb. 16
The Marion County Retired Educators will have their February meeting in Hamilton at the Marion County Health Department Community Room at 11 a.m. Listerhill Credit Union will be sponsoring the retired educators’ lunch that day. If you are a member of the Marion County Retired Educators, please come out and enjoy a great lunch with your fellow educators.

The Little Mr. and Miss Cupid Pageant, sponsored by the Hamilton Band Boosters, will be held at 3 p.m. at the Hamilton High School Gymnasium. The Junior Miss Aggie and Miss Aggie Pageant, sponsored by the Hamilton Band Boosters, will be held at 6 p.m. at the Hamilton High School Gymnasium. THROUGH FRIDAY, APRIL 27
Bevill State Community College will be hosting “FAFSA FRIDAYS” in the Office of Student Services from 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. every Friday through April 27. College personnel will provide assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the upcoming year. To complete the FAFSA, a 2011 tax return is required. The Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama are now selling Girl Scout cookies at the Winfield Community Center. The price is $3.50 per box. All of your favorite cookies are back, as well as a new lemon flavor called Savannah Smiles. The Girl Scouts will not be taking pre-orders. Cookies are on hand and Girl Scouts are doing direct sales.
