The Hamilton Police Department - is accepting applications for the position of Police Officerin anticipation of future vacancies. Under the general supervision of Chief of Police, Police Officers routinely work an assigned shift and perform patrol duties to protect the Hamilton Community against criminal and safety threats as well as provide assistance to the public. This is a high profile occupation where employees are required to professionally and ethically represent the City of Hamilton, AL both on and off duty. Applicants must be United Sates Citizens, at least 21 years of age a the time of hiring, who are of good moral character and reputation, and not the subject of felony convictions, legal prohibitions from possessing firearms, or certain other misdemeanor crimes or violations. Starting salary is approximately $30,908.80 to $31,428 depending on qualifications. Persons hired will be provided with all required uniforms and equipment. Applicants will be required to undergo various levels of screening, each of which must be successfully passed according to standards set by the Hamilton Police Department and the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission - LE (APOSTC-LE) in order to continue to the next level of participation in the applicant process. Applicant screening is used to determine a person’s suitability to become a police officer and to determine the applicant’s competitive ranking on a roster of successful applicants and includes extensive background investigation, interviews and other testing that may be necessary in accordance with the APOST administrative code, rules or regulations. Applicants will additionally be required to provide various documents or other proof regarding qualification standards. Applicants considered for receipt of an employment offer will be required to undergo final screening that includes further interview, polygraph examination, physical examination, and drug and alcohol screening. Applicants who are not already certified as Law Enforcement Officers by APOST will be required to pass a pre-employment physical fitness test. APOST certified applicants may, at the discretion of the Hamilton Police Department, be required to pass a pre-employment physical fitness test.
