Red Raiders finish perfect in area
Win over Brilliant moves MCHS to 8-0

BRILLIANT - With the regular-season Class 1A-Area 12 championship already wrapped up, No. 7 Marion County (Class 1A) had a chance to polish off an undefeated run through the area with a win against Brilliant on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
The Red Raiders did just that.
Marion County (22-1 overall) led by more than 15 points after the opening quarter before expanding the lead to 45-18 at the half en route to a 74-32 win over the Tigers in the final area game for both teams. The Red Raiders finished area play at 8-0.

BRILLIANT - Marion County (9-11 overall) brought its Class 1A-Area 12 play to a close on Tuesday, Jan. 31, evening its area record at 4-4 with a 65-47  road win over Brilliant.
Game stats were not provided.
The Lady Red Raiders suffered their final area loss the previous night (Monday, Jan. 30), falling to third-ranked Lynn (Class 1A) 39-31. The loss snapped Marion County’s four-game winning streak.

Board approves volleyball Super Regional format
New format will eliminate sub-state round

The playoff format for Alabama high school volleyball is getting a makeover.
The Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Central Board of Control approved the move to two Super Regional volleyball tournaments at its winter meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 25, according to a release issued by the association on Thursday, Jan. 26. The new format will be instituted for the 2012-2013 school year.
