The Seventh Annual Hackleburg Neighbor Day Festival Arts and Crafts contest will
begin. Anyone interested in participating in the contest should call Glenda
Anglin at 935-3054 or the Hackleburg Town Hall at 935-3133 for delivery and
cut-off times. Entries will be accepted in just about anything, including
crafts, quilts, drawings, paintings, etc. Another contest of different types of
foods (cakes, pies, cookies, jams, jellies, preserves, salsa, etc.) is also
open to contestants. On Friday evening, a panel of out-of-town judges will come
in and judge everything. The winners will be announced during the Neighbor Day
Festival on Saturday, April 26, and ribbons will be awarded and displayed with
the winning items. The festival committee reserves the right to reject any and
all entries.

The Vernon City Celebration 2008 will be held and will feature arts and crafts
and live entertainment. Persons interested in having a craft booth should call

(205) 695-3188. The deadline for registration is April 12. There will also be an antique car
show, tractor and motorcycle show. Registration will begin at 8 on Saturday
morning. On Friday night, the Class of 65 Band will perform from 7 - 10 and on
Saturday, entertainment, including line dancing and various bands, will begin
at 8 a.m. and run throughout the day.

The Seventh Annual Hackleburg Neighbor Day Festival will be held. The morning
will begin at 8 a.m. with a 5K run and a one-mile walk. Music and entertainment
will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Other activities will include (with
contact persons noted): a car show (Ray McCarley -
935-8997); a tractor show (James Anglin - 935-3913); and the second annual motorcycle show (Billy Palmer - 935-3143). Again this
year there will be a lawn mower pull as well as a first-time event, a baby
diaper derby race at 12:30 p.m. There will be a variety of vendors and lots of
music and entertainment, so those planning to attend are encouraged to bring
their lawn chairs and join some good neighbors in Hackleburg for a fun-filled

The Hackleburg Civitan Club is sponsoring a 5K run and one-mile walk.
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. and end
about 7:45 a.m. The race will start at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $10, which will include a Neighbor Day Festival-shirt (as long as the T-shirts last).
Those who would like to register early and reserve a T-shirt may do so by going

A Spring Vendor Festival, sponsored by the Hamilton High School Band Boosters,
will be held inside the new Hamilton High School gym from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Admittance is free to the public. There will be local vendors, arts and crafts,
games, concessions, raffles, and live entertainment including Bob Moody.
The inaugural Chad Jordan Memorial Bike Ride, hosted by Family Worship Center in
Hamilton, will be held, starting at 10 a.m. at the church, located at 3156
Bexar Ave. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. A map and route details will be
available the day of the event. Following the ride, participants will meet back
at the church at noon for hamburgers and hot dogs. Information: Alfred or

American Legion Post 100 will have its annual fried chicken dinner at the Legion
Post 100 building in Winfield. The dinner will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The
cost will be $7 per person.

The reservation deadline for the Winfield City High School Class of 1988’s 20-year reunion is Wednesday, April 30. The reunion will be held on Saturday,
Aug. 2, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Riverfront Restaurant in Hamilton. A
registration fee of $50 per person or $100 per couple will be charged.

The Hamilton Career Center and the Franklin County Development Authority will
host a free seminar for area employers.
“The Facts--Vital Information for Today’s Employers” will be offered at the Northwest-Shoals Community College, Phil Campbell
campus, in the student government association building. Registration is from
9:30 - 10 a.m. with the seminar running from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Lunch will be
provided. Graham Sisson, Jr. will be the speaker.

The Second Annual Spring Alabama Foster and Adoptive project will benefit the
7,000 foster children in Alabama. New socks and school supplies are needed, and
these items may be dropped off at the Marion County Department of Human
Resources, located on Highway 43 North in Hamilton. Monetary donations will be

The Mayday Bake Sale will be held in front of the Wal-Mart Supercenter in
Hamilton starting at noon and continuing until the baked goods are all sold.
The bake sale will be Friday only.
SATURDAY, MAY 3
The Second Annual Charity Bike Ride will be held at J. Collier Foster Lodge #906, 7102 Harperwood St., Northport, with
registration beginning at 1 p.m. and the ride starting at 2. After completion
of the ride, a cookout will be held at the lodge. All proceeds will go to
Eagles

The Hackleburg Alumni Banquet will begin at 7 p.m. in the Hackleburg Schools
gymnasium. The doors will open at 6 p.m. Admission will be collected at the
door. Tickets will not be sold for this event. The classes to be honored at the
banquet this year include the
“golden year” Class of “1958” and the “silver year” Class of “1983.” Earlier in the day, at 2 p.m., a social hour will be held at the Hackleburg
Schools gym.
A pancake breakfast will be held at the Bobby Bishop Community Center in Bear
Creek from 6 - 10 a.m. The meal will include pancakes, sausage, coffee, orange
juice, or water. The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for ages eight and under.
Proceeds will benefit the Bear Creek community.
The annual chicken supper will be held at the Byrd Volunteer Fire and Rescue
Department. Plates are $ 7 each. Serving will begin at 4 p.m. and carry-outs
will be available. Plates will consist of chicken, potato salad, slaw, baked
beans, and dessert.
