Obituary policy
The Journal Record will be glad to run any obituary free-of-charge as long as there is a stated Marion County connection. There is no charge to include a photograph with an
obituary. No faxed or instant photographs will be accepted.
Photos may be picked up at the JR after the obituary appears in the paper.
All obituaries must be submitted by a funeral home. Obituaries from individuals
will not be accepted.
The deadline for submitted obituaries is Wednesdays at 5 p.m.
Submitted obituaries will be run in a timely fashion. The Journal Record operates within time and space constraints. All obituaries received by the
deadline may or may not be listed in that issue of the paper, depending on the
volume of submissions and the approaching deadline for paste-up.
The Journal Record runs obituaries as soon as they are received from the funeral homes, provided
they fall within our deadlines. For example, if a funeral home submits an
obituary on a Thursday, the announcement will not appear in the paper for
almost two weeks.
The Journal Record encourages funeral homes not to turn in all of their obituaries at one time,
especially close to the deadline. Individual obituaries submitted immediately
(by mail, fax, or in person) give the widest possible latitude in preparation
time.
If there is a mistake on behalf of the funeral home submitting an obituary, that
funeral home will be charged $25 to rerun the corrected obituary. If the
Journal Record makes a mistake, we will gladly rerun the obituary free-of-charge.
The Journal Record reserves the right to edit obituaries for length and clarity.
