Sides signs with Bevill State
Winfield’s Nicole Sides signed a track and field scholarship with Bevill State Community College on Thursday, April 10. Sides competed in the high jump, triple jump, 100-meter hurdles, and 300-meter hurdles events at this year ’s state track and field meet. guin - The Hackleburg Lady Panthers defeated Brilliant 5-2 during the first contest of the Class 1A, Area 12, softball tournament.
Hackleburg’s Kori Hulsey picked up the win, pitching a complete game.

County schools set for jamboree matchups
With spring football practices officially underway throughout most of the county, several schools have scheduled jamboree matchups to test their teams ’ progress thus far.
The Hamilton Aggies will travel to Florence this Friday, May 9, to take on Florence at Braly Stadium on the University of North Alabama campus. The jamboree matchup is slated to kickoff at 6 p.m.
The Brilliant Tigers will travel to take on Mount Hope on Friday, May 16. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
In another road contest for a county squad, the Phillips Bears will take on Tharptown on Friday, May 16. The kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

Mayfest 5K Raider Run May 10
GUIN - A 5K run and a one-mile fun run/walk will be held as part Guin’s Mayfest activities on Saturday, May 10. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. across from the Guin City Hall. There will be a $10 registration fee. Participants in the one-mile fun run/walk will receive ribbons. Each division winner in the 5K competition will receive a medal. The best overall male and female racers in the 5K will be presented with $100 cash.

BCDA tournament May 10
The Hamilton Bassmasters will participate in a BCDA tournament on Saturday, May 10, beginning at 6 a.m. The event will take place at Upper Bear Creek and will kick off from the Twin Forks Ramp. There will be a $50 entry fee for each boat.

Pikeville two-man scramble May 31-June 1
PIKEVILLE - The Pikeville Country Club will hold a two-man scramble on Saturday and Sunday, May 31-June 1. There is an entry fee of $100 per team. Prizes will be given for closest to the pin. Shotgun starts will be at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Participants must be 18 years old to enter.
