Hackleburg Panthers are area champions

HACKLEBURG — The Hackleburg Panthers won an impressive two game series against Belgreen this past Friday which now crowns Hackleburg as area champions.
Hackleburg won the first game of the series 10-0 with their two pitchers, Blaise and Maddox Vickery, pitching a combined shutout.
The Panthers started their scoring right off the bat as Blaise Vickery drove in two runners off of a single.
From the mound, he allowed just four hits and no runs over four and two-thirds innings while striking out seven batters in the game.
In total, Hackleburg got 11 hits throughout the game with Ross Hudson, Edge Weeks, Payton Scott and Blaise Vickery all getting in on the action.
Beating Belgreen in the first game meant that Hackleburg would play a second against the side to determine whether Hackleburg would end the regular season on top.
In an important must-win game for the Panthers, the team stepped up winning 11-7.
This time, both offenses were batting in runs from the plate.
Hackleburg again started well, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning and two in the second.
The Panthers started to allow their opponent to creep back into the game with the score at 6-5 in the  bottom of the fifth inning.
Hackleburg’s Hudson stepped up to the plate and hit a single into left field, bringing in four runs on an inside the park home-run.
Hackleburg held onto their lead, scoring one more run before the end and letting Belgreen score two more runs.
With Hackleburg named area champions, they will now host the first round of playoffs on Friday April 21.
