Hamilton faces waiting game over Sims’ seat

Matt Sims

HAMILTON — The Hamilton City Council has quite the wait on their hands as they announced they will wait for Matt Sims’ 90 day absence to be complete in order to vacate his seat on the council.
Sims, who recently had his third arrest during his first term as Hamilton City Councilman, has been absent  from the council for over 60 days.
Alabama code 11-40-25 states any elected municipal official who misses all regular and special called council or commission meetings for 90 consecutive days, beginning on the date of any absence, shall be removed from office by operation of law.
Hamilton Councilman Scott Tyra announced the city, having unsuccessfully asked for the resignation of Sims, will wait the 90 days for his seat to become vacant.
