Summer Funfest coming Tuesday

GUIN — Guin Parks and Rec will be hosting its first ever Summer Funfest next Tuesday, June 20, which will feature games, music and more.
The Funfest comes as the Guin Water Park will remain closed this summer for repairs and renovation.
“This is the very first time we’ve ever done anything like this,” Athletic Director for Guin Parks and Rec Cally Chaffin said.
This first event will feature inflatables, food, music and some special guests from Brilliant.
“We’re going to have Barking Cow Farms come with 15 of their animals,” Chaffin said. “There will be some exotic animals along with some regular farm animals like horses and cows. They’ll have a camel, a kangaroo, lemurs and those are just the animals that I know of.
“Then we will have two bouncy castles and an inflatable slide. We just recently re-did our tennis court and pickle ball court, and we’ll have that going as well if anyone wants to play those games, too.
“We will also have food vendors there, and we’ll have some DJ music, nothing live, but it will be good music, good food and hopefully a good time for all.”
Chaffin said that she and the park set up this event to fill the gap left by the water park’s temporary closure.
“Since we’re re-doing the pool and having some maintenance work on that, we just wanted to have the opportunity for families and kids to come out and enjoy time at the park,” she said. “So I thought this would be a good way for us to get things going and kick off the summer.”
Chaffin said she is hopeful that the Funfest won’t be the last big event that the park puts on this year.
“If this event goes well, we’re going to hopefully do a Back-to-School Bash that’s similar to this, but right now we’re just testing the waters to see how well this goes. But I think it’s going to go well, and I hope we’ll be able to do another event like this towards the end of the summer.”
The Summer Funfest is scheduled for Tuesday, June 20, from 5-9 p.m. at Hayden Riley Park in Guin. The cost of admission is $5. Anyone who has any questions can call Guin City Hall at 205-468-2242.
