Mrs. LouNell Cagle, 96, of Brilliant, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, surrounded by her family at her daughter’s residence in Purvis, Miss. LouNell was born in Lamar County, Ala. on July 19, 1927 to Leroy and Ora Mae McKay Barnes. Following her marriage to Kermit Cagle, they lived in Brilliant. She was a devoted member of the Brilliant Freewill Baptist Church. She retired from the Marion County School District where she was a lunchroom worker and bus driver. She loved all her school kids.
LouNell was known for her faith, her family, and her generosity. She was a woman of God and a prayer warrior who loved her family fiercely and served the Lord. She was a sacrificial mother and an honorable wife.
Her ministry was sending cards of encouragement to everyone and fixing meals to feed anyone in need. She loved to travel and see new places. She was also interested in gardening and canning vegetables.
Like Mawmaw Barnes always said, “I only have beautiful children.”
She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Cagle Gray and Deborah Smith; granddaughters, Angie Roberts, Sandy Scott and Alisa Tidwell; grandsons, Tom Smith (Jessica) and Trevor Smith (Nichole); great-granddaughters, Jessica Roberts (Dallas), Kayla Patterson (Earl), Codie Carter (Bradley), Alicia Ethredge, Katie Tidwell, Michelle Tidwell, Rachal Dodd Lolley (Chris), Elise Smith, Harley Smith and Mila Smith; great-grandsons, Sonny Roberts (Paige), Colton Scott, Joseph Tidwell and Beck Smith; great-great-granddaughters, Blakely LouElle Lowry, Mattie Patterson, Laila Carter, Brenna Carter, Taylor Jacobs, Trayonna Polk, Sailor Tidwell, Dalis Tidwell, Kam Smith, Tristyn Dodd and Chelsi Lolley; great-great-grandsons, Rylan Roberts, Kullen Roberts, Rogen Patterson, Tyce Bromley, Kylan Polk and River Tidwell; brothers, Wiley Barnes (Maxine) and Eugene Barnes; sisters-in-law, Euldean Allen and Shelby Barnes; brother-in-law, Gary Rose; and a host of nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Kermit Cagle; father, Leroy Barnes; mother, Ora Mae McKay Barnes; sisters, Allean Guin (Early), Dorothy Elliot (Donald), Ruth Tittle (Howard), Betty Jo Willet (Perry), Joyce Ann Rose, Judy Gulley (Earl) and Nelta Sue Barnes; brothers, Jesse Barnes, Sam Barnes, James Barnes, Boyd Barnes and Floyd Barnes; grandson, Tony (Cynthia) Dodd; sisters-in-law, Willodean Cagle, Olivia Taylor, IvaDell Taylor and Vera Mae Carrao; and brothers-in-law, Orville Cagle and R.H. Cagle.
Serving as pallbearers were Tim Barnes, Steve Barnes, Curt Barnes, Chris Barnes, James Smith, Jason Eatman, Jon Hatten and Terry Farris.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cagle were held on May 25, 2024, from Bowen Funeral Home Chapel in Winfield.
