HAMILTON — In commemoration of Black History Month 2025, Ruthie West Whitman will be sponsoring a “Museum of Marion County Black History.”
There will be various displays and submissions available for all to see from Monday, Feb. 24, through Friday, Feb. 28, at the Hamilton City Hall in the front foyer area.
“You are cordially invited to peruse this history and the multitude of contributions made by the Black Americans descended from formerly enslaved persons (Freedmen) in Marion County, Alabama,” Whitman said.
The displays may be viewed during regular city hall hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be a rotation of consultants from the community on hand to answer questions.
Hamilton Mayor Bob Page noted, “We have authorized a display of pictures and a few artifacts from the Black community during the last week of February. The community is invited to come by and see the display.”
Hamilton City Hall is located at 736 Military Street South, Hamilton, AL 35570. The phone number is 205-921-2121.
