Wyman Estes

James Wyman Estes Sr., better known as Wyman, 95, of Guin, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025, in the Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham.
Born Oct. 20, 1929, in Guin, he is the son of the late James H. and Mae McGuire Estes and the husband of the late Jewel Stricklin Estes.  Wyman served in the Air Force stationed in Phoenix, Ariz.; Biloxi, Miss.; Greenville, S.C., and a tour in Germany. After his military service, he began his work career with Liberty National Life Insurance where he worked as an insurance agent and associate manager before he retired. After retirement, he became an insurance partner with Your Insurance Centers, Inc. He drove a tour bus and made multiple trips to Branson, New York City and Washington, D.C. and other locations in the U.S. He drove the bus for the annual Marion County Baptist Association mission trip and drove the 6th graders from Guin Elementary School to Washington, D.C. for 13 years. He was one of the bus drivers for the Auburn University Marching Band for five years. He was requested many times to drive the bus for area high schools to their field trips, band and athletic events.
Wyman volunteered in his community by serving as a trustee for the Guin Schools. He was a previous member of the advisory board of State Bank and Trust and the board of the Guin Housing Authority. He also served in various civic clubs.
Wyman was a deacon emeritus after serving 50 years. He taught Youth Boys Sunday School for many years and volunteered many hours with the bus ministry. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge.
He is survived by a daughter, Cindy Estes Sager (Bill); a son, Jamey Estes; four grandchildren, Shelley Blocker (Allan), Justin Estes (Misty), Tasia Benton (Joseph) and Jordan Miles (Derrick); and nine great-grandchildren, Will Blocker, Maggie Blocker, Audrey Blocker, Macie Lancaster (Evan Mears), Cade Lancaster, Mila Benton, Zoey Benton, Aven Miles and Addy Miles.
Funeral services were held April 7, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Guin with Bro. Scott Stokes officiating. Burial with military honors followed in the Guin City Cemetery.
