Tommy Akers

Elbert Thompson "Tommy" Akers, 61, of Tanner, Ala., passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, at his residence.  
Born Jan. 30, 1964, in Opelika, Ala., he is the son of the late Joe and Glenda Harper Akers. Tommy graduated from Hamilton High School in 1982 and spent much of his life in the Guin community before moving to Tanner. A dedicated and hardworking man, he spent over 30 years at 3M in Guin, where he made many lifelong friends.  Tommy had a heart of gold and never hesitated to help anyone. He loved sports, especially cheering on the Auburn Tigers. Above all, his greatest pride and joy was his son, Leland "Lee" Akers, whom he loved deeply and was so proud of.
He is survived by his son, Leland Thompson "Lee" Akers (Rylee) of Detroit, Ala., as well as his aunts, Brenda Lawler and Connie Smith and a host of cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Merril Akers and Glenda Harper Compton; brother, Joe Merril "Joey" Akers Jr. and an infant daughter, Mary Hannah Akers.
A Celebration of Life was held on Dec. 1, 2025, at the Veal Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Guin, with Bro. B.J. Mills officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Liberty Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
