First Baptist Church of Guin hosting 9/11 memorial service this Sunday

GUIN — First Baptist Church of Guin will be hosting a 9/11 memorial and prayer service this Sunday, Sept. 13, at 2:30 p.m.
Sept. 11, 2026, will mark the 25th anniversary of the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon that took the lives of nearly 3,000 people and affected countless more.
Pastor Zane Miles said Glen Allen Mayor Allen Dunavant, who was a survivor of the attack on the Pentagon that day, will speak at the service.
“It just really worked out, and I felt like it would be a good opportunity for us as a community, and maybe even farther out, to have a time of remembrance and a time of prayer for our future, to ask the Lord to bless us where we are and continue to watch over us as we move forward,” Miles said. “That’s the heart behind it.”
Miles said the service won’t be anything overly complicated, but will give those in attendance the chance to pray for those affected by that day, as well as those still feeling the effects.
“That day, we’ll come in, have a couple of hymns, then Alan will speak,” he said. “Following that, we’ll just have a time of prayer for anybody who would like to pray for our country, for those who were affected by that day and are still affected by that day, and then lift up those who are still currently dealing with the aftermath as first responders and paramedics. Everything about life in America changed that day.
“It’s nothing really huge or elaborate, just an opportunity to hear from somebody who the Lord saved from there and then an opportunity to have a time of prayer.”
