MARION COUNTY —Although many official reports will not be available until after the Journal-Record’s presstime, Marion County Emergency Management Agency Director Russ Taylor was able to provide a statement early Monday morning concerning storm and straight-line wind damage from Saturday, June 7.
“I don’t have a report from Marion County 9-1-1 yet about exactly how many calls they received,” he noted. “But I can tell you all five of our road districts, our county commissioner districts, had some sort of storm damage.
“Mostly trees blocking roads and bringing down power lines. We had some structure damage throughout the county. I cannot confirm we didn’t have any injuries, but I have not gotten any reports yet from any injuries from this weekend, or folks displaced.
“But we did have widespread straight-line wind damage from Saturday afternoon. We went under a severe thunderstorm warning around noon, between 12-12:30 p.m.
“I haven’t seen anything out of Birmingham (National Weather Service) as far as measured wind speeds, but we did get reports that the same storm system registered 70 mile an hour winds in Mississippi.
