HAMILTON -  This year for Memorial Day, I sat down with U.S. Navy veteran Don Collins, 92, who was kind enough to share some of his memories of his time in the U.S. Navy. Collins served as a cook in the Navy during the final year of World War II.

Don Collins, born on Jan. 27, 1927, to James Thomas and Golda P. Collins, served in the U.S. Navy from Jan. 11-Aug. 15, 1945, as a cook during the final year of World War II.
“I joined the Navy 16 days before I was old enough and my mother had to sign for me. Once my mother signed, I had to take my physical,” recalled Collins, 92.
