Johnny Paul Byrd, 79, of Hamilton passed away on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 28, 1944 in Marion County to the late John Henry and Era Carter Byrd. He was a timber cruiser for W.T. Vick Lumber Company here in Hamilton for 20 plus years until it closed down. After that, he sold timber for Horn Brothers Lumber for several years. During all of this time, he was also the owner of J.P. Byrd Logging until his retirement at age 72.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sylvia Shotts Byrd; children, Kim (Michael) Herron, Vicki (Terry) Hughes, Amy (Rich) Dubielak, Liz (Louie) Nix, Janet (Ray) Mann, Brent Byrd; brother, Dwain (Sis) Byrd; and brother-in-law, Elvis Bailey Sr. (Rita). He was blessed with 9 grandsons and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Byrd (Audrey); sisters, Tootsie Taylor (Hansel) and Mary Nell Bailey; and grandson, Allan Gosa.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024 from the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Shottsville Cemetery.
