HAMILTON — At its Monday, March 16, meeting, the Hamilton City Council welcomed Miss Hamilton 2026 Liliana Geier, who presented information on her anti-bullying program and a proclamation the mayor signed designating that day as “Bullying Prevention Day” in the City of Hamilton.
Geier, a senior at the University of Alabama who is majoring in public health, founded “Live with a Passion for Compassion: Bullying Prevention” in 2020 to bring awareness on the impacts of bullying and highlight the steps that need to be taken to reduce it throughout Alabama and beyond.
So far, she has spoken to more than 200 students at Hamilton Elementary School about her platform, and she hopes to spread her message to other students across Hamilton.
“I’m honored to serve as the current Miss Hamilton,” she said, and then explained she’d founded her platform after a personal loss in which one of her friends died by suicide following severe bullying.
“That experience inspired me to dedicate my time to bullying prevention and student advocacy,” she said.
“In the State of Alabama, 20.9 percent of students report being bullied on school property, which means one in five children are affected.
“Because of this, I made it my mission to educate students about what bullying is, how to recognize it and the lasting impact it can have.”
Besides the local elementary school students, Geier has spoken to more than 2,000 students overall about bullying prevention.
“During these presentations, I focus on teaching the ‘Stop, Walk and Talk’ method, so students have practical tools to respond to bullying in situations,” she said.
Later, Miss Hamilton explained the three-step anti-bullying strategy taught to young students to handle unwanted behavior encourages students to stop the behavior by stating it firmly, walk away if it continues and talk to a trusted adult, such as a teacher or parent, if bullying persists.
