Fred’s Xpress to close in Hamilton

HAMILTON - Reports list Fred’s Xpress Pharmacy in Hamilton as closing following a bankruptcy filing earlier this month.
Fred’s Xpress, located at 1360 Military Street South, should not be confused with Fred’s Pharmacy, which is owned by Cole Sandlin and located at 797 Military Street South.
According to press reports, Fred’s, a  Memphis, Tenn.-based discount merchandise retailer and pharmacy chain, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday, Sept. 9, with the Securities and Exchange Commission and plans to close all of its stores and liquidate its assets. Fred’s Xpress locations in Hamilton and Fayette and Fred’s Super Dollar in Red Bay are all listed as locations that will be closed. All locations will reportedly close in roughly two months.
According to the court filing, all stores have commenced going-out-of-business sales. Fred’s will continue to fill prescriptions at most of its drugstores as it pursues a court-supervised sale of its pharmacy assets.
