Marion County students returning for the fall semester today (Wednesday, Aug. 11) under similar health guidelines that were seen at the close of the 2020-2021 school year.
In contrast to a mask mandate implemented by Winfield City Schools, Marion County School students and teachers are being asked to wear masks and vaccinate, according to guidelines released by the Marion County Board of Education.
Schools nationwide have weighed additional health guidelines for the beginning of school due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, which have resembled the spike in cases seen last summer. Federal health officials have warned that a Delta variant of COVID-19 is highly contagious and has been infecting children at higher rates.
