MARION COUNTY — Marion County’s Senior Centers have been facing quite the problem with funding in the last several months.
With federal COVID funding now coming to an end, many centers are reporting that Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments have been unable to support centers with much needed funds to pay for meals and taking on new clients.
“They changed our rules on frozen meals and where you can live to be eligible. Before, it was basically if you were 60 years old and you met some of our criteria about needing extra food or being disabled, you could qualify for the service. Now they’ve changed some of the rules because, a lot of the COVID money is gone, and that’s what let them do extra over the last couple of years,” said Joyce Dubielak at the Hamilton Neighborhood Facilities.
“We cannot take new clients.”
