Mr. Kenneth Richard “Dude” Mayfield, 81, of Winfield passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024 in the UAB Hospital. Dude was born on May 10, 1942 to John Thomas and Carra Townley Mayfield. He was a graduate of Brilliant High School and married the love of his life Estalene Tucker. He worked as a coal miner for many years until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Alabama football, tending to his chickens, and gardening. You could normally catch him sitting outside watching hummingbirds and the flowers blooming. One of his greatest achievements was being called Pop. He loved his great grandbabies and spending time with them. He also took on the role of father to two of his granddaughters and loved them like his own.
Dude is survived by children, Alan Mayfield of Louisiana, Dawna Carter (Randall), and Rodney Mayfield; grandchildren, Tiffany Mayfield Balentine (Nick), Megan Mayfield (Austin), Danielle Carter Hullet (Kasey), Kara Carter, and Willow and Ryder Mayfield; great-grandchildren, Colton Terry, Carson Terry, and Sawyer Balentine; siblings, Bob Mayfield (Juanita), Jeanette Bryant (Kenneth), and Steve Mayfield; and a host of other family members and friends.
Dude was preceded in death by his wife, Estalene Tucker Mayfield; parents, John Thomas and Carra Mayfiel; great-grandson, James Timothy “Trip” Beasley III; great-granddaughter, Stella Eloise Beasley; brother, Bill; sister, Emma Jean along with other family members and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Mayfield were held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at the Harmony Grove Baptist Church with burial that followed in the adjoining cemetery.
