Mary Sue Goodson

Mary Sue Sanderson Goodson, 92, of Nashville, Tenn., passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2024. Born in the Barnsville community on Nov. 11, 1932, she was the daughter of J.R. and Chloe Sanderson.
Mary Sue was a faithful public servant working as a school teacher at Buttahatchee School, then in social work with the Department of Pensions and Security (now Department of Human Resources) retiring from the State of Alabama at 49. After retirement, she began a second chapter in her life of giving, opening ABC Daycare where she was affectionately known as “Ms. Sue” to generations of children and their families. Her nurturing spirit made her beloved by all who knew her.
A third career found her working for West Alabama TV Cable, where she continued to be a constant presence of warmth. Whether she was teaching, caring for children, managing a team at the cable company or sharing her delicious homemade pecan pie, Mary Sue’s unwavering kindness and work ethic were felt by all.
Mary Sue is survived by her sons, Mike (Celia) Goodson and Andy (Doris) Goodson; her grandchildren, John Michael Goodson, Maggie Goodson, Parker Goodson and Will Goodson; and numerous extended family and friends who will miss her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Goodson.
A devoted mother, grandmother and friend, Mary Sue’s legacy will live on in the lives of those she touched with her love, wisdom and generosity. Her family and friends remember her as a woman of grace, humor and deep faith, whose laughter and caring heart brightened every room she entered.
Services to celebrate her life and many impacts on the world were held on Dec. 24, 2024, at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Hamilton Memory Gardens.
