Beverly Townsend, 83, formerly of Hamilton, Ala., and Wilson, N.C., passed away Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Keller Landing in Tuscumbia, Ala. She died of complications from Alzheimer’s Disease.
Beverly was born in Warren, Ohio. She spent a large portion of her later years residing in Wilson, N.C., and was actively involved in her local church, Raleigh Road Baptist Church. Beverly enjoyed giving back to others and crocheted many baby blankets for the Wilson pregnancy center. Before returning to Hamilton to live with her daughter in 2019, she worked in Wilson at Lowe’s as a head cashier and in the garden department. Beverly loved gardening and in her younger years, was an avid bowler.
Survivors include, children, Randy (Gail) Townsend and Lynnette (Wayne) Walker; grandchildren, Otha (Eboni) Townsend, Tatum (Allen) Hardison, Jacob (Jennifer) Walker and Cassie (Conner) Nix; great-grandchildren, Lake, Lincoln, Bryson, Jackson, Gage and Porter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Genevieve Benedict.
A memorial service will be held at Church of the Highlands-Shoals Campus (751 Co Road 46, Florence) on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Beverly elected many years ago to donate her body to a teaching college. Her body was transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made in her honor to UAB, Duke University or the University of North Carolina.
