‘A happy ending’ Discovery of suspected body turns out to be something else…

First responders are called to a creek bank in Winfield after what was suspected to be a body was found.

WINFIELD — It was a cool, spring morning on Sunday, March 29, when a hunter found something he certainly didn’t go into the woods to search for that day.
Sitting on the sandy banks of a branch off Luxapallila Creek was a large, black garbage bag. Something was inside. As he made his way closer, something caught his eye and set off alarm bells ringing in his mind. It looked like a human foot.
Just before 11 a.m., the call came in to the police. Winfield Police Chief Brett Burleson was about to take the pulpit at his church when he heard what had been discovered.
Officers arrived on scene to witness the same disturbing sight: what looked like a decomposing, possibly burned, human foot and other decomposing skin visible through holes torn in the garbage bag.
One officer voiced concern that, based on the small size of the foot, the victim might even be a child.
Officers cleared brush from around the body and secured the scene, laying down a tarp and taking other precautions to preserve evidence without moving the body until the coroner could get there.
