Haleyville Lions roar over Aggie Bulldogs

HALEYVILLE — The Haleyville Lions kept their victory train rolling along with a 46-21 victory over region opponent, the Hamilton Aggies last Friday night, Oct. 20. The Aggies took the opening kickoff, but a fumble recovered by Fisher McCombs put the Lions in possession at the Haleyville 20. Hayden Ramos, one of the workhorses on the night, touched the ball 12 times on the 17-play drive. With the ball at the Aggie 2-yard line, quarterback Cooper McNutt stuck the ball in the end zone for the touchdown. Brett Coleman made good on a wildcat play for the two point conversion, giving Haleyville an 8-0 lead with just over three minutes to go in the first quarter.
The Aggies scored their first touchdown with 2:02 left in the first half. Eli Harris took off to the goal line. This made the score 8-6, standing good at halftime.
It was a wildcat kind of third quarter, with the Lions scoring three touchdowns. Haleyville had possession from midfield. Ramos carried three times to the Aggies 36, with Coleman taking the snap in the wildcat set. He barrelled into the end zone, also making the two-point conversion, with 9:54 showing in the third. Haleyville led 16-6.
Eli Cagle intercepted a Hamilton pass in the next series, putting Haleyville at their own 20 again. It was Coleman in the wildcat set once more. He went all the way to the Aggies’ 9-yard-line. Ramos then took the handoff for the touchdown with just under six minutes left in the third quarter. Coleman made good on the two-point conversion, stretching Haleyville’s lead to 24-6.
The Aggies put the ball into the end zone in the next drive and scored a two-point conversion, making the score 24-14. The Aggies tried an onside kick, but Haleyville recovered the ball at midfield. Coleman went wildcat on the first play for the touchdown. He also scored the two-point conversion and changed the scoreboard to 32-14.
The Aggies quickly answered with their own touchdown in four plays. The PAT was good, closing the Lions’ lead to 32-21 as the fourth quarter started.
Haleyville would score with about four minutes left in the game with McNutt going up the middle from the Aggies 6-yard line. Ramos was good for the two-point conversion. The Lions led 40-21.
The final score of the night saw Coleman scooting down the right sideline for 47 yards. The two-point conversion failed, but Haleyville pounded the Aggies 46-21.
Ramos was the leading rusher for the night, with 30 carries for 187 yards and two touchdowns.  Coleman had 10 carries for 212 yards and three touchdowns.
For the Aggies, Eli Harris was the leading rusher,  with 76 yards in six carries and a touchdown.  Mason Holloway was 7-of-20 for 104 yards and a touchdown for Hamilton. Blake Vaughn and Hunter Galbreath also had touchdowns, Vaughn on the ground and Galbreath through the air.  
The Lions play Corner at home this Friday, who are currently undefeated. Hamilton will take to the road again Friday night, taking on Northside.
