John Carl Burgess

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, John Carl (Yank) Burgess, 96, of Winfield. He passed away peacefully at the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, Ala. on the night of Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024.
He was born on May 18, 1928, in Rock City, Ala., to John and Drusilla White Burgess. He was a member of the Winfield First Baptist Church, a Shriner and a member of Winfield Mason Lodge #304. He loved the outdoors, especially gardening and fishing. He was an avid Alabama football fan.

Thomas Clanton Hubbert

Mr. Thomas Clanton Hubbert, better known as “T.C.”,  75, passed away on Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, at his residence.
T.C. was born in Bazemore, Ala. on Jan. 8, 1949, to Silas Jr. and Willodean Hollingsworth Hubbert. He was a member of Whites Chapel Church of Christ and a 1967 graduate of Hubbertville High School. T.C. spent much of his life as a machine operator with Arvin Industries of Fayette, from where he retired after 35 years of service.  In his spare time T.C. enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching Alabama football, and spending time with family and friends.

William Harold Jones

Mr. William Harold Jones, better known as Harold, 78, of Winfield passed away on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024, in the Diversicare Health Care Center in Winfield.
Harold was born on March 6, 1946, in Guin, to Bill and Bertha Hosch Jones.  He was a member of the Zion Missionary Baptist Church and attended Winfield City High School.  Mr. Jones was employed for many years with various mobile plants in the surrounding area.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors.
He is survived by his brother, Gary Jones and his wife Alice of Guin; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Phillip Ballard

Mr. Phillip Webster Ballard, 73, passed peacefully on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, surrounded by family at home.
Born on Sept. 17, 1951, in Fayette, he was the son of James Daniel Ballard and Mary Lucille Webster Ballard.
Phillip was owner of Ballard Real Estate and Construction for 41 years and worked in construction for well over 50 years.

Dean Caudle, 90, of Winfield, formerly of Guin, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.
Born Feb. 22, 1934, in Lamar County, Ala., she is the daughter of the late James W. and Eula Faye Graham Robertson and the wife of the late B.D. Caudle Jr. She had lived in Birmingham most of her life and in Guin and Winfield the past 20 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Guin.

William Wayne Phillips, 80, of Bear Creek, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024.
Wayne attended Phillips High School in Bear Creek and was the valedictorian of his high school class in 1962. He graduated from Florence State Teachers College in 1966 with a teaching degree with a major in biology. He graduated from Auburn University in 1968 with a master’s degree in biochemistry.

John David Coker

John David Coker,  55, of Winfield, passed away on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024. John was born in Miami, Fla., on Nov. 6, 1969, to Guy Coker and Joann Wood Lott. He was a member of Grace Life Church and a 1987 graduate of Winfield High School. John was employed with Bolzoni Auramo in Sulligent as a machinist. In his spare time, John enjoyed working on cars, watching Alabama football, listening to music, taking care of his animals and especially spending time with his grandson. John possessed an extraordinary love for life, family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Virgie Lee McDonald Housh

Mrs. Virgie Lee McDonald Housh, 99, of Winfield, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024, at her residence. Mrs. Housh was born in Wayside, Ala., on March 3, 1925, to Leonard C. and Ellena Blakney McDonald. Mrs. Housh was a member of the Winfield Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Mitchell Housh; a son, Donald F. Housh (Jan); her brothers, Curtis, Thermon, Edward, Hugho and L.C. McDonald; her sisters, Betty June McPhail, Edna Grace Atkinson, Ellena Sue Howell, Maelene Dickinson and Mavis Wheeler.

Bobbie Ann Stewart Mullins

Mrs. Bobbie Ann Stewart Mullins, 89, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, in Winfield. She was born on July 5, 1935, in Winfield to James Frank and Annie Florence Beasley Stewart. Bobbie was a member of the Guin First Baptist Church and attended Hubbertville High School. She graduated from college as a registered nurse and served for over 30 years in the Winfield and Guin hospitals. In addition, she also worked as a real estate agent in the area and loved helping people find their choice home.

John L. Ingle

John L. Ingle, 91, of Hackleburg, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, at his residence.
John L. was born on Sept. 1, 1933, in Hackleburg. He was a devoted Christian and a life long member of First Baptist Church in Hackleburg where he was a deacon for 50 plus years.

Linda Kaye Mosher

Linda Kaye Mosher, 63, of Hamilton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Hamilton. She was born on July 27, 1961, in Tulsa, Okla. She was a devout Christian, wife and mother, and she loved everyone with her whole heart. She will be remembered as the most kind, loving, understanding person you could ever meet.

John Darracott, 62, of Hamilton, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at his residence.
John was born on Aug. 27, 1962, in Kenosha, Wis., to the late Carmon and Eloise Darracott.
Survivors include wife, Angie Darracott; daughter, Jessica (Wesley) Davis; grandchildren, Zachary (Chaslie) Lucius, Ethan Davis, Caleb Davis, Andrea Davis, Stacee Davis and Natiley Davis; siblings, Carmon (Pat) Darracott Jr., David (Patsy) Darracott and Becky Darracott; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 Etna Faye Wates, 95, of Guin, passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin.
Born Sept. 29, 1929, in Marion County, Ala., she is the daughter of the late Will and Bessie Green Franks and the wife of the late Qudell Wates.  She had lived in the Pea Ridge community most of her life and was a faithful member of the Green Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

Gene Sanderson

Gene Sanderson, 89, of Hamilton,  passed away on Sunday,  Nov.  3,  2024, at his residence.
Born April 17, 1935, in Marion County, Ala.,  he is the son of the late Elmer and Rebecca Harris Sanderson and the husband of the late Emma Jean McDaniel Sanderson.
He had lived in Orange Beach, Ala., and Hamilton most of his life and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hamilton. He was a businessman, home builder and a coach at Vina, Hackleburg, Phil Campbell, Bear Creek and Millport.   

Christy Leigh Pugh

Christy Leigh Pugh, 47, of Hackleburg, passed away on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at her residence. She was born in Amory, Miss., on March 4, 1977, to Danny Dozier and Kathy Davis Cantrell.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Brent Pugh; daughter, Brittni (Vince) Cantrell; sisters, Tara (B.J.) Damron and Chasity (Ethan) Woods; stepchildren, Mason (Sheyenne) Pugh, Nikki (Dylan) Gosa and Tyler (Megan) Pugh; stepfather, Russell Cantrell; mother-in-law, Dianne Pugh; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Treaver P. Owen

Treaver P. Owen, born on Feb. 18, 1931, in Barnesville, Ala., passed peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at the age of 93. He was the beloved son of Taft Owen and Amanda Burrow, and the cherished older brother to Bobby Owen, Ernest Owen, Martha Emerson and Peggy Sue Cooper. Known for his unwavering faith and steadfast spirit, he was a man who lived by example, showing love, humility and strength to all who knew him.

Leonard Gordon Metts, 84, of Hamilton, passed away on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at Marion Regional Nursing Home. He was born in Florida on Feb. 25, 1940, to George Metts and Inez Pike Metts.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Michele Metts Sauls; granddaughter, Dawn Sauls Highland; grandsons, Jacob Sauls and Joshua Sauls; great-grandson, Jasper Highland; great-granddaughter, Jupiter Highland; sister, Shirley Metts Hobbs; brother, Kenith Brooks; also, the Helms family, Mike, Gwen, Ashlee and Tesney Holbrook; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ramona Aldridge Hollingsworth, 67, of Eldridge, passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Ricky Hollingsworth; brother, Harold Aldridge (Nancy); sisters-in-law, Marion Aldridge, Brenda Tucker (Roger) and Rhetta Tucker (Marrill); several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and caregivers, Shirley McCollum and Pat Taylor.

William Braley

William C. (Butch) Braley, 76, of Hamilton,  passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center – Tupelo. He was born in Alabama on March 17, 1948, to William Braley and Mary Beth Dotson Braley.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Judy Braley; son, Jeff Braley; sister, Debbie (Roy) Scott; sisters-in-law, Diane (Jerry) Lawson and Doris (Billy) Quinn; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Dotson Braley; brothers, Johnny Braley, Albert Braley and Buddy Braley.

Linda Jeanette Berryhill

Mrs. Linda Jeanette Berryhill, 90, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at her residence. Mrs. Berryhill was born in Glen Allen, Alabama to James and Lucille Hughes Stewart. Jeanette was a member of the Cahaba Heights United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Hubbertville High School and later attended Montevallo University. Jeanette retired from Vulcan Materials in Birmingham, Alabama. In her spare time Jeanette enjoyed traveling.

Jaqueline Marie Fikes

Jaqueline Marie Fikes, 62, of Winfield passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024 at her residence. Mrs. Fikes was born in Tecumseh, Michigan to George Jackson and Agnes Louise Baumea Hughes. Jackie was a graduate of Tecumseh High School. She spent much of her life as a carpenter in the mobile home industry. In her spare time Jackie enjoyed going to the beach, white water rafting, riding ATVs, fishing, working in her yard, and interior decorating.

Freda Langston Hubbert, 78, of Winfield, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 in Miramar Beach, FL.
 
Mrs. Hubbert was preceded in death by her Husband-George Franklin Hubbert; Mother-Alma Webster Langston; Father-Johnnie Loyd Langston; Brothers-Maurice Langston, Jimmy Langston and Glen Langston; and Sister-Mary Frances Langston Beasley (Stewart).

Mrs. Lovetta McCaleb, 83, of Winfield passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 in the DCH Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Mrs. McCaleb was born on March 7, 1941 to Marvin and Minnie Tucker. Lovetta was a member of the Tidwell Chapel Church of Christ and a 1959 graduate of Hubbertville High School. After high school she attended Hobson State Technical College where she earned her license in Cosmetology. Lovetta spent 22 years as a hairdresser and makeup artist in Thomasville, AL where she was the owner/operator of Family Hair Center and Merle Norman Studio until her retirement.

Gail Webb

Mrs. Gail Webb, age 86, of the Brilliant community passed from this life on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at her residence. Gail was born on October 10, 1938 to Claude and Pauline Caudle Berryhill. She was a member of the Brilliant Church of Christ and a 1957 graduate of Brilliant High School.
In addition to her parents Gail was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Webb, and grandson, Dallas Webb.

Joyce Cooper Williams

Joyce Cooper Williams, 79, of Hamilton, passed away at her residence on October 22, 2024, surrounding by her loving family.
 She was born on June 9, 1945 in Hamilton, Alabama to the late Cleveland Ottis and Clara McCurley Cooper. She was a member of Hamilton Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by her Husband of 62 years, RC Williams and their Children: Renita Williams Crumpton and Rodney (Carole) Williams; Grandchildren: Dalton Cecil Williams and Tyler Craig Williams; Sisters: Nina Lindley and Jean (Jimmy) Isom.

Jerry 'Alan' Swinney, 66, of Hamilton, passed away on Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, at NMMC Amory, Miss. He was born on Feb. 28, 1958, to Jerry R. Swinney and Vinna Lou Wade.
Jerry will be remembered as a man of strong and quiet character, unfailing loyalty and profound integrity. He loved his home, his family and his Lord. He accomplished many great deeds in his life while working his land and enjoying the outdoors, but he considered the family he leaves behind to be his greatest accomplishment.
