Byrd Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department is holding its Annual Sportsmen Gun Extravaganza on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 6 p.m. at Byrd Fire Department.

Dedication Ceremony for Louisa Elizabeth Jane Bates Brooks Johnston

All are welcome to join the monument dedication ceremony for legendary “Aunt Jenny,” Louisa Elizabeth Jane Bates Brooks Johnston. The ceremony will be at the Pebble Community Center, located at 100 County Road 3423, Haleyville, AL 35565 on Sunday, March 20, at 2 p.m. The ceremony will include guest speakers, period dressed characters, rifle salute and canon fire, followed by a reception. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors. Aunt Jenny was a well-known and outspoken lady who avenged the death of her husband and son during the Civil War.

42nd annual ARC Easter Pageant

Date

The 42nd annual ARC Easter Pageant will be Saturday, April 2, beginning at noon at the Haleyville Elementary cafetorium. There will be five divisions for girls ages 1-12. The ages of the divisions may vary depending on the number and ages of the participants. Easter attire only, please. The entry fee will be $30. There will be a $10 fee for additional children in the same immediate family. A Miss Photogenic will be chosen for each division, which will be an additional $5. Rehearsal will be Thursday, March 31, from 4-6 p.m. in the HES cafetorium.

American Legion Oratorical Contest

An oratorical contest sponsored by the American Legion, Department of Alabama Division 1, will be held at Madison City Hall, located on Hughes Road, on Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. in Madison, Ala. If any students in grades 9-12 at your school would be interested in the national oratorical contest, please attend this event and plan to participate next year. The Winfield Tree City Board, mayor and council have declared Wednesday, Feb. 22, as Arbor Day for the City of Winfield. The Tree City Board will have a free tree giveaway at Winfield City Hall on Feb. 22 from 9-11 a.m.

Job Fair at Bevill

The Marion County Career Center coaches are hosting a job fair for their students Friday, Feb. 24, from 11 a.m. until noon at the auditorium of the Bevill State Community College Hamilton campus. The Hamilton Career Center is partnering with BSCC to host a community job fair the same day directly following the student job fair. Immediately following the Bridge Senior Student Job Fair for Marion County Schools, the event will be opened to the public for community members seeking employment.
