Roberts' execuion date set for Aug.21

MONTGOMERY — A warrant has been approved, and a date has been set, for the execution of David Lee Roberts, who was convicted of the 1992 murder of Annetra M. Jones.
Roberts, who was 26 at the time, was arrested on Thursday evening, April 23, 1992, and was held without bond at Marion County Jail before being tried and convicted.
Jones was found in a burning home with multiple .22 caliber gunshot wounds to the head.
The home belonged to W.S. Satterfield, who was returning home when he saw the fire and called Lamar County 911. Roberts was living in the home at the time.
After firefighters found the body, law enforcement from multiple agencies began to investigate the murder. The forensic evidence they collected led them to Roberts.  
Authorities believed Jones was visiting the home at the time of the murder, and they believed it was likely that Jones and Roberts knew each other, and Roberts took the money from Jones, shot her, then set the fire.
