Mrs. Ruth Mae Tittle, 91, of Brilliant, Ala., passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023, in the Ridgeview Health Care Center in Jasper, Ala. Ruth Mae Barnes Tittle was born on July 23, 1931, in Lamar County, Ala. to Jacob Lee Roy Barnes and Ora Mae McKay Barnes. She loved Brilliant and graduated from Brilliant High School in 1950. She married the love of her life, Howard Tittle, on January 22, 1952. Ruth and Howard welcomed their son, Charles, to the world in October of that year, and their daughter, Teresa, in September of 1959. “Mama Tittle” was the name given to Ruth by her grandchildren. She became “Mama Tittle” to everyone that knew her. When her great granddaughter, Lily, came along, “Mama Tittle” became “Tittle”.
Ruth was a huge supporter of not only her kids and grandkids, but to all that were involved in their lives. She was active in every aspect of their lives. Ruth loved her family, second only to The Lord. Ruth was a member of the Whitehouse Church of Christ. She would spend countless hours playing dolls, doctor, and beauty shop with her great granddaughters. She loved her sweets and believed that meals were always better when you ate your desserts with them.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Teresa Smith (James); daughter-in-law, Jeanette Tittle; granddaughters, Ginger Tittle Eatman (Jason) and Paula Tittle Hatton (Jon); grandson, Wesley Smith (Kali); great-granddaughters, Lily Piper Hatton, Saylor Kate Smith, and Oaklyn Tayte Smith; sister, Lounell Cagle; brothers, Eugene Barnes, Wiley Barnes (Maxine), and Sam Barnes (Shelby); and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; her son, Charles; her sisters, Dorothy Elliott, Betty Jo Willett, Joyce Ann Rose, Nelda Sue Barnes, Judy Gulley, and Allean Guin; and her brothers, Jessie, James, Floyd, and Boyd.
A celebration of life for Mrs. Tittle was held on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Bowen Funeral Home. Ruth was laid to rest at Center Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wesley Smith, Jon Hatton, Jason Eatman, Chris Barnes, Tim Barnes, Terry Farris, and Ronnie Roberts. Vance Hutton and Byron Longcrier delivered the eulogy. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to two different projects that were near and dear to Ruth’s heart: The American Cancer Society, in care of Jeanette Tittle, at 13182 US Hwy 278, Haleyville, AL 35565 or to the Brilliant greenhouse project, at Brilliant Elementary School, 10180 St. Hwy 129, Brilliant, AL 35548.
