William Charles Babb, 78, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 2, 2023. Charles was born on January 6, 1945, in Pickens County, Ala., to Kitty Mae and Olon Babb. He graduated high school in 1963 from Palmetto High School in Pickens County, where he played football and baseball. Charles spent a majority of his professional career in the banking industry, beginning at the age of 26 at Merchant and Farmers Bank in Millport, Ala. He moved his family to Marion County in the late 1970s, where he continued his banking career. He was a founding member of PeoplesTrust Bank, where he retired in recent years, but continued to serve on the Board of Directors and the loan committee. He was an active member of various service clubs and organizations throughout Marion County, and held leadership roles in many. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hamilton.
Survived by his wife of 58 years, Johnnie Bonner Babb; son, Steven (Kristi) Babb of Hamilton; daughter, Kristi Babb Hill of Tuscaloosa; four granddaughters, Jordan (Ethan) Lawler and Raegan Babb, both of Hamilton, Addisyn Hill and Avery Hill, both of Tuscaloosa; one great-granddaughter, Tatum Lawler; one sister, Billie Bain of Tuscaloosa; and three nieces and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donnie (Becky) Babb; and brother-in-law, Roy Bain.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at the Hamilton First Baptist Church. Burial followed at Arbor Springs Cemetery in Reform, Ala.
