Kith Furniture, located off Highway 13 in Bear Creek , has shut down operations.
BEAR CREEK — The closure of Kith Furniture, which just two years ago employed up to 250 people, has been a devastating blow to the Town of Bear Creek, in the loss of employees, as well as occupational tax generated by the business.
Bear Creek Mayor Rob Taylor did not learn of the closure until he saw it posted on social media, he told the Alabamian in an interview Thursday, July 3.
“I was shocked,” Taylor pointed out. “It’s terrible to learn anything like that.
“With the economy the way it is and everything, it could happen to anybody,” the mayor added. “I hate that it happened. Hopefully, either the owners can regroup and get it going again or possibly sell the property and we get another corporation in there.”
Kith Furniture, a manufacturer of bedroom furniture for retailers, began operations in 2011. The structures, including both manufacturing and office space, encompass a total of 200,000 square feet on approximately 14 acres, according to Taylor.
