WINFIELD — The Winfield City Council held a short regular meeting on Tuesday, March 3. Councilmen Miles Miles and Tim Garrison were absent.
After approving the minutes, the city council opened discussion about the city’s proposed police service contract, which would require police officers to sign a contract promising to serve a certain number of years before leaving for another position.
The council voted to table the discussion until a later meeting to give all council members a chance to review it and did not take further action on the contract during the meeting.
Mayor Randy Price gave an update on development around Exit 30 on I-22, saying that progress is waiting on ALDOT to approve materials used to install turn lanes on Highway 129, and work likely won’t begin there until September of this year.
Further construction of new businesses will have to wait until that part of the project is completed.
Price also updated the council that several other paving projects are still in the works and should be going out for bid soon.
The city is also awaiting on a CDBG grant to go toward paving roads in the housing authority, as well as Rebuild Alabama grant funding the city has applied for to go toward other paving projects.
The council then voted to enter executive session to discuss potential litigation before voting to adjourn.
