The Marion County Democratic Party held a cookout on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the beautiful Twin Oaks Park in Twin, Ala. to honor the fallen heroes from Marion County and around the nation. There were posters with the pictures and names of the marines and soldiers from Marion County who lost their lives during WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War and the Middle East conflict.
Madame Chair Lynda Kirkpatrick gave a memorial presentation honoring our fallen heroes.
“Every generation has their war. Vietnam was mine. We lost a friend and classmate, SP4 Larry Robison, who was the only one from Winfield who didn’t make it home. Mike Spann from Winfield lost his life in Afghanistan. There were so many more who we honor here today for the sacrifice they gave so that we may live with the freedoms we enjoy. We have several veterans here, and we are so thankful that your names are not on these posters. We, as Democrats, pride ourselves for supporting the surviving veterans who honorably served our nation. We will continue the fight for better healthcare and the benefits that they so rightfully deserve. We must work to elect a Senate and House who will vote for our veterans to have the same free lifetime gold star health benefits that our taxes pay for them. They have earned it and deserve it.”
Special guests from the Fayette County Democratic Party included Madam Chair Donna Jones, Vice Chair Richard White and John Underwood and Dexter Lowery from Tuscaloosa County.
MCDP Chaplain Marvie Marchbanks led the blessing. Linda Stowe kept the grill hot with burgers and hotdogs. There was a table full of side dishes of potato salad, baked beans, tortillas, chips and lots of desserts that included homemade peach cobbler and chocolate cake.
Music filled the air from Motown soul to country and pop and karaoke! The kiddies had a ball playing on the playground and wading in the stream.
The MCDP would like to thank every family across our nation who made the ultimate sacrifice of losing a loved one in a time of conflict for our country. We urge everyone to check the voting records of our representatives and see if they are voting for the issues that are important to you and your family. Go to vote.org and see who you have elected.
The MCDP meets the second Tuesday of each month at the old city hall located at 427 James Crump Memorial Drive, Hamilton at 6 p.m. You may contact us a mcdp35570@gmail.com. We proudly stand for the equality of all, the power of education, dignity of work and our responsibility to each other to provide a clean environment and a safe place to live.
