GUIN — The Marion County Red Raiders shared a win and a loss with the Hackleburg Panthers on Thursday night, Jan. 17.
The Lady Red Raiders began the night with a 57-42 victory over the Lady Panthers.
Marion County was leading 26-20 coming out of halftime, and widened their lead to 48-27 at the end of the third quarter.
The Lady Panthers turned things up in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Raiders held the line long enough to win the game 57-42.
Marion County’s top scorer was Lily Robinson with 19 points, followed by Bekah Junkin with 14, Alecia Shack-Donaldson with 9, Jolie Kate Cox with 8 and Zella Williams with 7.
Saylor Cooper led the way for the Lady Panthers with 15 points, followed by Emma Nichols with 12, Laine Steward with 7, Jordin Ware with 4 and then Carson Browning and Jadin McCollum with 2 points each.
The varsity boys’ game swung in the Panthers’ favor as they kicked off the game by taking a tight 15-14 lead in the first quarter.
The second quarter was another close fight, but the Panthers entered the locker room with another one-point lead at 33-32.
Through the second half, the Panthers were eventually able to start outpacing the Raiders and won the game 68-55.
Jaquan Reeder led the Panthers in points, scoring 36 and shooting 13-15 on free-throws.
Victor Marchan scored 21 points, followed by Blaise Vickery with 5, Daughtry Gober with 4 and Cameron Ingram with 2.
Marion County’s boys and girls played in the first round of the Marion County Basketball Tournament yesterday, which they are also hosting.
The Panthers played yesterday as well, but the Lady Panthers will enter the bracket in the second round tomorrow (Jan. 23).
