GUIN — The city of Guin set up a $500,000 line of credit for 120 days during its Aug. 5 meeting to help cover expenses on an ALDOT grant for Sawmill Road.
The city council approved a contract in their meeting back on July 7. The contract requires the city to pay $230,117.14, which will then be reimbursed to the city. The line of credit would allow the city to cover that period of time before reimbursement.
The council discussed a timeline of 60-90 days in the July meeting, but finally settled on 120 days in the Aug. 5 meeting.
The council also discussed another matter last week that also arose in the July 7 meeting. The council discussed increasing rates from Waste Management, which increased from $46 a ton to $75 a ton.
Mayor Phil Segraves explained that rates at the West Jefferson facility are lower at $32 a ton, but the long drive means more wear and tear on the trucks. He said the city would keep its options open.
