Willie Gray Nichols, 85, of Hamilton, Ala., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, at Arabella Health and Wellness in Vernon. Willie was born on Aug. 31, 1941, in Beaverton, Ala., to the late Lecil Stanford and the late Stella Hawkins.
Willie was a 1959 graduate of Sulligent High School and was previously employed at Wrangler in Hackleburg, Reltoc in Beaverton and HealthTex in Guin. She absolutely loved her family and treasured spending time with them, especially her grandchild, who she adored. She also enjoyed the laughter and fellowship of her friends and was known to love playing games on her phone. She was a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit. Her tender and loving heart will forever be cherished and never forgotten.
Willie is survived by her husband, William Nichols of Hamilton; daughters, Lorie Norris and Jeannie Harper, both of Hamilton; sister, Frances Cantrell of Sulligent; grandchild, Rebecca Norris; and great-grandchildren, Adalynn Pate and Remington Carpenter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Flavous Stanford, William Thomas Stanford, Guy Stanford and Willis Stanford.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at 2 p.m. at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Liberty Cemetery near Detroit. Bro. Brian Price is to officiate with Bro. B.J. Mills, Bro. Danny Stanford and J.R. Reich serving as honorary officiants. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Keith Stanford, Barry Stanford, Parker Stanford, Danny Lee, Jamie Bozeman, J.J. Jennings and Greg Bayrd.
