On June 16, 2021, the residents of Hamilton lost a one-of-a-kind individual, Laura Gene Fikes. Many knew her as the wife of Lex Fikes or the mother of Lex Arden Fikes. I just knew her as Laura Gene.
Laura Gene was born on March 29, 1923, to Otis H. and Lucille Roby Burleson (Bama.) Her siblings were Marjorie Wiginton, Joy Naish, Sonny Burleson and Billy Burleson. Her survivors included brother-in-law: Jimmy Naish, sisters-in-law: Willie (Elaine) Fikes, Joyce (Ragan) Fikes and Wauneace (Maurice) Fikes, a host of nieces and nephews and a long-time caregiver, Linda Williams. Her education included her attendance at a business college in Nashville, Tennessee.
