James Leland White

Mr. James “Boss” Leland White, 92, of Winfield, Ala., passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at his residence. Mr. White was born on Feb. 2, 1931 in Winfield. James was the oldest of nine children. He was known for being bossy to his younger siblings, earning himself the nickname “Boss” from them. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church and attended Winfield City High School. Mr. White served his country in the United States Army. He was employed as a machine repairman for John Deere Foundry in Moline, Ill. and retired after 27 years of service.
Mr. White is survived by his daughters, Brenda Carton of Jasper and Patricia Mellor (Howard) of Winfield; grandchildren, Daniel Mellor, Gareth Mellor (Stephanie), Jonathon Mellor (Laura), Leslee Carlson (Eric), Kate Carton, and Emily Carton; great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Noah, Jack, and Joshua Mellor, Rylie Martin, and Arlo and Etta Mae Carlson; brothers, Cecil Trimm (Sharron) and Arnold Trimm (Ann); sisters, Dora Atkinson, Lita Smith (Leonard), Marilyn Springer, Wanda Berryhill (Tony), and Shirley Langley (Buddy); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Mr.  White was preceded in death by his wife, Nyleta Wilson White; his parents, Leslie and Minnie White Trimm; and brother, Kenneth Trimm.
Funeral services for Mr. White were held on Saturday, April 30, 2023, from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
