HAMILTON — The Oak Grove Tigers came to Hamilton on Friday, Sept. 15, and went back home winners of the game 39-36, the result of a field goal in the fourth quarter.
The Hamilton Aggies led a strong game up to a tie of 36, also in the fourth quarter. The clock ran out as a Hamilton player was tackled within yards of the end zone.
The Tigers began play, receiving the kick off. They moved the chains but turned the downs over to the Aggies. Hamilton’s Elijah Harris moved the ball to the Tiger 18-yard line, which was then moved to the end zone for the Aggies first touchdown on the night. The honor was held by Quarterback Mason Holloway. Kevin McBride took it in for a good two extra points, leading by 8-0.
The Tigers punted on the next drive. Hayden Ables carried the ball from near midfield to first and goal, when Holloway got the second touchdown and also the two point conversion, earning the Aggies 16-0.
As the second quarter ramped up, Tiger Collin Pate earned his team their first touchdown. A good PAT was made by Braxton Yocom, chasing the Aggies 16-7.
Holloway kept the lead widened with another touchdown and Kel Battle earning the two point conversion. The score stood 24-7 in favor of the Aggies.
After a onside kick, Tiger Jeremiah Fuller narrowed the score back with a touchdown of his own. Pate got the two points creeping up to the Aggies 24-15.
After a drive of 67 yards, Aggie Elijah Dollar ran for the touchdown. The two points were no good, but the score doubled the lead for the Aggies, 30-15. It wasn’t for long though, because Fuller was back for another touchdown. Their two point try was no good, leaving the score at half time 30-21, Aggies.
On the second half opening drive by the Aggies, they were forced to punt. This gave the Tigers an opening, and a complete pass scored them a touchdown with a good PAT. This narrowed the gap to 30-28.
McBride was able to score a touchdown, though the two points were no good, stopping the score at 36-28, Hamilton.
In the fourth quarter, things turned around for Oak Grove. Fuller added another touchdown, and Pate scored a good two point conversion, tying the score at 36. The Aggies turned the downs over, and on fourth down, Yocom kicked a field goal, leaving a final score of 39-36, Oak Grove.
With seconds to go on the clock, the Aggies tried a couple of incomplete passes, and during the last three seconds, one took the ball toward the end zone but was brought down scant yards away from a touchdown.
The Aggies’ next game will be Friday, Sept. 29, at home against the Winfield Pirates.
