Winfield hosts WAC Championship meet

WINFIELD — The Winfield Pirates hosted the West Alabama Conference Track and Field Championship last Wednesday, March 27.
Winfield’s boys’ team placed second with 208 points, behind Fayette with 285.5 points and ahead of Lamar County with 109.5 points.
The Lady Pirates placed third with 132 points, just behind Lamar County with 139 points and first-place Fayette with 280 points.
Fayette won the boys’ and girls’ 4x800 meter relays, with Winfield taking second and Lamar County taking third in both events.
Fayette’s Aliya Stevenson and Ella Davis won first and second in the girls’ 100-meter dash in 17.93 seconds and 19.20 seconds, respectively. Winfield’s Lizzie Muck finished third in 19.57 seconds. .
In the boys’ 110m hurdles, Winfield’s Kane Hendrix won in 18.54 seconds, followed by Fayette’s Isaiah Harrison (19.55) and Winfield’s Mason Miller (19.71).
Fayette’s Stevenson, Caylen Williams and Alyssa Britnell swept the girls’ 400m. Winfield’s Jarett Hosch won the boys’ 400m in 52.86 seconds. Fayette’s Darius Evins placed second (54.34), and Winfield’s Wes Estes finished third (55.36).
In the girls’ 1600, Fayette’s Bailey Unger won in 6:12.89. Winfield’s Audrey Spillers and Audrey Patton took second and third (6:22 and 6:41).
In the boys’ 1600, Lamar County’s Jacob Smith won, followed by Fayette’s Elijah Benton and Brady Jones. Winfield’s Avery Lawler placed fifth.
The girls’ 4x100m relay ended the same as the previous relays, with Fayette winning, Winfield placing second and Lamar County taking third.
Fayette’s boys also won the boys’ 4x100, Winfield placed second again, and this time Sulligent placed third.
Fayette’s Destiny Robinson won the girls’ 200, followed by Sulligent’s Trinity Johnson and Fayette’s Alyssa Britnell.
Jarett Hosch brought in another win for the Pirates in the boys’ 200, finishing in 24.09 seconds. Sulligent’s Haigen Gann placed second, then Fayette’s Darius Evans was third.
Haven Magouirk and Karlee Clark claimed the first two spots of the girls’ 800 for Fayette, followed by Winfield’s two Audrey’s (Spillers then Patton) in third and fourth.
Brady Jones and Jacob Paddon similarly claimed the top two spots in the boys’ 800, followed by Lamar County’s Jacob Smith in third.
Fayette’s Stevenson won the girls’ 300m hurdles in 49.39 seconds. Lamar County’s Ella Gunnels placed second and Fayette’s Ella Davis finished third. Winfield’s Abigail Ayers placed fifth.
In the boys’ 300m hurdles, Lamar County’s Alexander Bradford took home the gold, Winfield’s Kane Hendrix and Mason Miller won the silver and bronze.
Winfield’s Spillers and Patton were the only two girls to run in the 3200. Fayette’s Elijah Benton won the boys’ 3200 in 11:06.41. Jacob Smith of Lamar County placed second, and Fayette’s Sam Rogers took third.
The girls’ 4x400 continued the trend from the previous relay, as did the boys’ relay.
Aliya Stevenson won girls’ high jump for the Lady Tigers with a total mark of 4’6”, followed by Lamar County’s Ella Gunnels and Kylee Lann.
Lamar County’s Kevin Yarbrough won boys’ high jump with mark of 5’6”. In second place was Fayette’s Charles Grant followed by fellow Tiger Gage Reynolds in third.
Fayette’s Ella Davis won girls’ pole vault as the only entrant, clearing a mark of 6’. Winfield’s Dylan Benton (9’6”), Alex Aldridge (9’6”) and Jaxon Rudy (8’) swept boys’ pole vault as the only entrants.
Fayette’s Destiny Robinson cleared 15’6” in girls’ long jump to win, followed by Lamar County’s Ella Gunnels and Lalya Shaw.
Fayette’s Orlando Lawson Jr. and Charles Grant won first and second in boys’ long jump, clearing 19’1” and 18’4”. Winfield’s Kane Hendrix placed third with a mark of 18’.
Lamar County’s Ella Gunnels won girls’ triple jump, Fayette’s Keyonia Wilson placed second and Lamar County’s Kylee Lann placed third.
Fayette’s Charles Grant won boys’ triple jump with a mark of 39’2.5”. Winfield’s Kane Hendrix landed in second place with a mark of 37’11.5”. Fayette’s Orlando Lawson Jr. placed third with 36’11”.
Fayette’s Chelsea Hollingsworth won girls’ discus, throwing for 69’8”. LeeAnn Manasco and Lexie May took second and third for the Lady Pirates with marks of 68’6” and 68’4”.
Winfield’s Kaden Williamson, Silas Rainey and Sean Wyers swept boys’ discus with marks of 100’8”, 95’8” and 95’4”.
Fayette’s Ally Porter and Caylen Williams took the first two spots of girls’ javelin with marks of 98’1” and 94’4”. Winfield’s Jayci Griffin placed third with 83’6”.
Winfield’s Declyn Morgan won boys’ javelin with 150’5”, followed by Fayette’s Noah Benton (124’1”) and Winfield’s Sean Wyers (123’11”).
