Delores McGuire Watson
Delores McGuire Watson, 84, of Hamilton, peacefully went to be with her Lord on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and devotion. Along with her late husband, she built a home filled with love, where they raised their two sons and welcomed countless family and friends.
Known as “Nanny” to her grandchildren and many others, she had a heart for caring, dedicating her life to nursing, her community and her church. As a strong-willed and faithful woman, she was a pillar of the Byrd community and a devoted member of Pleasant Site Freewill Baptist Church, the Byrd Volunteer Fire Department, as well as her women’s Bible study group, the Lady Byrds.
While we will miss her beyond words, we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace, rejoicing in the presence of her Savior and reunited with Marshel and her loved ones in heaven.
She is survived by her children, Daron (Linda) Watson and Rodney (Rena) Watson; her grandchildren, April Franks (Luke Harris), Cody (Charla) Watson, Danielle (Brandon) Wiedel, Whitney Watson (fiancée Ryan Benford) and Ashley (Taten) Palmer; her great-grandchildren, Kenton Steele, Grantley (Mackenzie) Steele, Talen Steele, John Cody Watson, Bayler Franks, Lucas Benford, Kash Marshel Watson, Mae Rose Palmer and Blakely Wiedel; her great-great-grandchild, Ryder Steele; her sister, Linda Gail Hopson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Marshel Watson; parents, Milton and Ruby Edmonds McGuire; and her siblings, Elmer McGuire, Iva Dean McGuire, J.C. McGuire, Dave McGuire, Harvey McGuire, Hulas “Diddle” McGuire, Virgil "Junior" McGuire, Marie McGuire Feltman and James McGuire.
Funeral services were held on Feb. 4, 2025, at Pleasant Site Baptist Church in Detroit, Ala. Burial followed at Rudicell Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Byrd Fire Department in her memory at 235 County Highway 13, Detroit, AL 35552.
