Supply drive now underway for Safeplace shelter, local DV survivors

HAMILTON — The Marion County Domestic Violence Task Force’s annual supply drive for Safeplace to benefit the local shelter and area domestic violence survivors is now underway.
MCDVTF Secretary and Supply Drive Chair Sarah Emerson shared more information for our readers.
“Each year, our organization hosts an annual supply drive,” she said. “Through this community-wide event, Safeplace Shelters and local domestic violence survivors are able to be served in a very personal and life-altering way.”
Emerson noted the task force appreciates the public’s participation in the drive, which will run through March 20 this year.
She asks churches, clubs and organizations to please notify their community members of the shelter’s supply needs, and possibly agree to become a donation site.
“Our task force members will pick up the supplies on a date set by you--either at the end of the drive or throughout the month.”
Shoppers Value in Hamilton has long assisted the task force in being a drop-off site, with other sites being added as this story goes to print.

About the MCDVTF
and Safeplace
Emerson noted, “Our organization primarily works to raise supplies, funding and awareness for Safeplace.
“Safeplace is an organization dedicated to helping men, women and children end the cycle of domestic violence through education, court advocacy services, counseling and more.
“Safeplace additionally serves domestic violence survivors through its shelters--providing a safe, secure residential environment for individuals leaving abusive environments.
“Although Safeplace has been serving our community for many years, the Marion County Shelter opened its doors in December 2019 and has been very busy ever since.”
She noted the MCDVTF also works directly with victims who need help, provides training opportunities for schools, community organizations and law enforcement and works to “break the silence” by raising awareness in the community.

“Additionally, if any churches, organizations or clubs are interested in hosting a speaker from Safeplace to speak on domestic violence or about how their organization serves our county, please let us know, and we can get you in contact with them.”
