Qualifiers for Marion County in 2025 municipal elections

MARION COUNTY — City and town officials have released the names of those qualifying for mayor and council positions for the upcoming election on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
Mayor positions and council places with just one name will be running unopposed.
As the towns of Bear Creek, Brilliant, Gu-Win and Twin have no candidates running against other candidates, these are considered “uncontested elections” and persons in these municipalities will not have to go to the polls and vote on Aug. 26.
According to the Alabama League of Municipalities, “In the event that only one individual successfully qualifies as a candidate for a municipal office, then pursuant to Section 11-46-26 of the Alabama Code, that individual ‘shall for all purposes be deemed elected to office.’
“When this happens, the lone

candidate's name will not be printed on the ballot. Instead, the mayor and council will create a proper record of the individual's unopposed candidacy and will issue a certificate of election to them. The individual will then take office on the first Monday in November, at the same time as the rest of the newly elected municipal officials.”
