Hamilton Aggie Band Director Kevin Cleckler has more than three decades of band-building experience.
HAMILTON —Band trips can be some of the most memorable experiences for students from their middle and high school years.
For the Hamilton Aggie Band, an upcoming opportunity to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Chicago, Ill., will not only be unforgettable, but might also mark a top performance of their school years.
All of the band students planning to go to Chicago are now in the fundraising stage, with each student responsible for raising $1,100 each.
Aggie Band Director Kevin Cleckler visited with the Hamilton City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 2, to ask for their consideration in making a donation to also help offset the cost.
At their next meeting on Monday, Sept. 15, the council unanimously approved a $3,000 contribution to assist with the band’s participation in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and their trip to Chicago.
During his comments on Sept. 2, Cleckler noted band trips are used as incentives to get students involved.
“One of the main things we use to encourage kids to be a part of our band program are trips and different things other groups can’t do, along with teaching and inspiring confidence and encouraging kids to believe in themselves when no one else will,” he said.
“As an educator, we see a lot of great kids and wonderful situations. But, we also see some bad situations, too. We do have kids in our program who need some help. Anything you could give would be greatly appreciated.”
