Toys for Tots: Apply now, donate now, host a drop-off box

HAMILTON — When you are out Christmas shopping this year, consider picking up an extra toy to drop in one of the local Toys for Tots donation boxes.
Several businesses in Hamilton have already put their boxes out for donations, including Hamilton City Hall, Bevill State Community College -Hamilton, Marion County Extension Office (across from the Rec Center in Hamilton), Bennett's Burgers, Marion County Courthouse, I-Deal Fitness, First National Bank, Fred's Pharmacy and Lovett's Family Steak House.
If you’d like to host a box at your facility, contact coordinator Marlon Holloway at 205-412-1324. The location receiving the most toys will receive a $100 cash prize incentive.
Holloway, a U.S. Marine Veteran, is also the person to contact for applications, which must be turned in by Dec. 5. Applications can be picked up at the Marion County Veterans Affairs Office at the Marion County Courthouse, Room 110.
Children up to 12 years old, who reside in Marion County and who are not getting toys from another national program, are eligible. Children participating in Christmas for Kids are not exempt. Please contact Holloway for more information.
Since 1947, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve has sponsored Toys for Tots, which is managed through the local Marine Corps League. This is the fourth year for the local toy drive.
Toys for Tots should not be gift wrapped, but left in their original packaging. Monetary donations are welcome, and more toys will be purchased with the funds.
“No kid is left behind on Christmas Day,” Holloway has noted.
