Satcher is newly hired Brilliant football coach

BRILLIANT — Brilliant School has hired Roger Satcher as the new head football coach after the resignation of former coach Brian Gunnels.
Satcher brings decades of coaching and school administration experience. From 1995 to 2005, Satcher worked as head baseball coach, defensive coordinator, assistant principal and athletic director for Jasper City Schools.

Lions beat Tigers

By Luke Brantley Staff Writer BRILLIANT — The Brilliant Tigers lost 33-0 at home to the visiting Hubbertville Lions on Friday night, Oct. 8. The Brilliant defense started strong after the Lions received the opening kick off. The Lions gained six yards on a run their first play, but two sacks on second and third down sent them back. The Lions went for it on fourth down, but couldn’t get the first down. The Tigers took over on their own 25, but an incomplete pass and a fumble in the back stopped any progress down the field. The Tigers punted on fourth down.

Panthers pounce on Tigers

HACKLEBURG — The Brilliant Tigers fell to the Hackleburg Panthers 26-6 at Hackleburg on Friday. The game was Brilliant’s first game of the season.
The Panthers kicked off to start the game, with Brilliant’s Braden O’Mary on the return. O’Mary took the Tigers to their own 30 yard line.
On their first play, Brilliant quarterback Wiley Hanson kept the ball and ran to the side for a gain of a few yards before he was brought down by the Panther’s defense.

Tigers drop second in a row

BRILLIANT - The Brilliant Tigers dropped their second contest of the season on Friday night, Oct. 2, falling to the Tornadoes of Pickens County High School by a final score of 26-13.
The Tigers, who are now 4-2 on the season and 3-1 in Class 1A, Region 6 play, started the scoring for the game in the opening period when senior quarterback Kade Bryant connected with Braden Burelson for a 13-yard touchdown reception. Jacob Barnes was good on the PAT, putting the Tigers on top 7-0 with 6:23 left in the first quarter.
