Nickey Allen Hughes, 59, of Phil Campbell, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, at Helen Keller Hospital in Tuscumbia, Ala. He was born Feb. 7, 1967, to Author Leon Hughes and Lorene Ann “Polly” Cole Hughes.
Nickey was a loving and caring man with a wonderful sense of humor. Many described him as one of a kind and a hardworking individual. Above all, he loved his family deeply and cherished the time he spent with them.
Nickey is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathy Hughes; sons, Adam (Chas) Hughes and Christopher Hughes; daughters, Latisha (Jamie) Gonzalez and Cassandra Hughes; grandchildren, Keyley Gann, Kierra Gann, Kaylynn Hughes, Serenity Hughes, Elektra Palmer and Makenlee Palmer; sisters, Teresa (Danny Cole) Fugate, Mary Williams and Sharon (David) Baker; brother, Tim Hughes; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Author Leon and Lorene “Polly” Hughes; brothers, Rickey Hughes and Michael Hughes; grandparents, Leamon and Grace Hughes and William Riley and Lottie Mae Cole; and sister-in-law, Sherry Hughes.
Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, from 6-9 p.m. at Akins Funeral Home in Russellville where the service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Dempsey Cemetery in Russellville. Brother Terry Butler and Brother William Borden will officiate. Pallbearers will be Kevin Aaron, Andrew Fugate, Riley Hughes, Kyle Pounders, Joey Beam, Justin Baker and Alex Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian McMafee, Joe Baker, John Baker, Gary Williams, Gary Edgar and Danny Cole.
