Architect approved for new Phillips Elementary School gym; other BOE news

HAMILTON — Among the items handled by the Marion County Board of Education at its Friday, Jan. 16, meeting was a unanimous vote for permission to enter into a professional services contract with Lambert Ezell Durham Architecture, LLC of the Shoals to provide architectural services for the new gym at Phillips Elementary School.
Superintendent Dr. Patrick Sutton noted of the new facility, “Hopefully, the new gym will open in 2027. We’re now waiting on the architect’s drawings to know more about how the gym will look.”
Sutton said he’d asked the architect to look at a few existing facilities in different places and bring the BOE something similar.
“It will primarily be an elementary school gym, but the floor will be long enough for us to use it for competition games,” he said. “There’ll be seating. There will be bathrooms.”
He said the new gym will be located at the elementary school on the back side of the property where the current playground is.
