Helen Marie Botelho

Helen Marie Botelho, 82, of Winfield, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, at North Mississippi Health Services – South Marion. Helen was born in Winfield, Ala., on April 3, 1944, to Basil and Stella Brazil Sprinkle.
Helen was a graduate of Hubbertville High School. In 1970, Helen married the love of her life, John Botelho, who was serving in the United States military at Fort Walton Beach, Fla. For 40 years, Helen and John made their home in Fort Walton Beach when they were not traveling to various locations during his military service. In 2025, they returned to her roots and made their home in Winfield, where they remained until her passing. Helen was a devoted member of the Fort Walton Church of Christ during her years in Florida and, after returning to Alabama, became a member of the Winfield Church of Christ. Throughout much of her working life, Helen was a bookkeeper. She spent many years with Diamond Drill, where she served as manager and bookkeeper until her retirement. Outside of work, Helen found great joy in fishing and cooking, and she excelled at both.
Mrs. Botelho is survived by her beloved husband, John Botelho; her grandchildren, Ashton Lee and John Botelho; three great-grandchildren; her brothers, David Sprinkle and Johnny Sprinkle; brother-in-law, James Botelho; sisters-in-law, Janice Botelho and Ivalene Sprinkle; nieces, Christie Nix and Twanna Knight (Tommy); nephews, Ricky Sprinkle (Patricia), Ronnie Sprinkle (Wendy), Randall Sprinkle and Brent Whitley; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews and other extended family members,
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Botelho was preceded in death by her son, John Paul Botelho; her brothers, J.C. Sprinkle, Kenneth Sprinkle and Clayburn Sprinkle; and sisters-in-law, Tenna Sprinkle and Edna Earl Sprinkle.
Funeral services for Mrs. Botelho were held on Sept. 28, 2026, at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Fort Walton Beach.
